Remember to Back Up Your Audio Projects, Kids

As much as people always tell me to back up my projects…I never have.  Stoopid, stoopid, stoopid.  I learned the lesson the hard way, but not the hardest way.  The most recent version of my lastest song project file was somehow corrupted last week, and I lost about 20-25 hours of work (my most recent separate file save was dated in February…d’oh!).  That’s pretty friggin’ annoying…but certainly isn’t as bad as losing an entire hard drive of audio data.  Obviously, I need to backup everything ASAP.

Don’t let this happen to you…please, back up your files!

Ouch, dude. At least you know that when you re-record it will be far better, right?

Funny, that’s exactly what Girl Crusade told me – ‘Hey, now you’ll just record a BETTER version of everything you lost!’ It only slightly cheered me up at the time. 🙂

    But I’m better now, really.

Oh snap! Though I do like the idea that it’ll be better this time…if of course you can get over the soul-crushing devastation of missing that much work. Just playing…I’m sure it’ll still be great!

Heheh. 🙂 I’ll admit, I was pretty pieved…especially since the corruption was a result of my trying to fix a different issue entirely. (So I believe, anyway.) But I’m over. Really, I am.

Yeah–this has happened to me in my writing before…it is sad and really upsetting at first. But I have always found that the next time you do it, it’s easier, faster, and ends up being better. Sometimes we hold onto a worse version of something, just because it’s completed. But if we were to do it over, knowing what we know now, it comes out cleaner.

One of my illustrator friends was telling me about this too. She recently had to redo all of her drawings, and then found the old ones and looked at them and thought they looked so amateur, and she was very glad she did them over.

But very frustrating! I know! Best of luck for the next version which will ROCK I am sure!
