MySpace is in trouble. And potentially, so are your Myspace profile and Myspace friendships. It’s time to move your Myspace friends to Facebook. If you’ve invested any time, energy, or funds into building a network of friends and fans for a Myspace profile, that can be somewhat alarming. Granted, MySpace will probably still be around for a while, but the constant bugs, the insane navigation, the banner ad cornucopia, and the now 47% smaller workforce maintaining the site, don’t lend a lot of confidence in the likelihood of site improvement over time.
Import Myspace Friends to Facebook
Yeah right, I wish. Things are never quite so easy. You can only indirectly plead with your MySpace friends to find you and “Like” you in Facebook. Fortunately, Myspace offers several ways to help you jump ship, which I describe below. If you’re like me, it’s been a long, long time since you’ve used any of Myspace’s functionality, and some guidance will help.Ask Your Myspace Friends to Move to Facebook via Myspace Email
The best way to get a Myspace friend to connect with you in Facebook is to send them a Myspace email asking them to do so. It’s a little tedious, since you can only email a maximum of 20 friends simultaneously, and have to enter each email address individually, but it’s the best way to reach your most important fans. (Not recommended for all 50,000 of your friends, you spammer, you.) Here’s how:- Log into (or Login to?) your Myspace profile
- At the very top of the page, move your mouse over the phrase “My Stuff” (located next to “Discover”)
- At the far right side of the pop-up module, click on the “Compose” link under “Mail”
- Enter up to 20 email addresses into the “To” box
- Enter a catchy subject line, something like “Leaving Myspace — please stay in touch!”
- Enter your stay-in-touch message, and be sure to include instructions on how to find you. (If you want to connect via Facebook, enter your Facebook URL. Make it live, clickable link, and increase its font size to make it standout.)
- Send, rinse and repeat as necessary.
Use Reverbnation’s FanReach to Email ALL Your Myspace Friends
ReverbNation offers a workaround for MySpace’s 20-email limit on the number of friends you can email simultaneously. You can create a “Fan Recruiter” email that will go to ALL your friends. The catch? The main call-to-action includes a giant “Join my ReverbNation Mailing List” button. But Reverb allows you to tailor your subject line and email message, which can include a link to your Facebook Page. Here’s how:- Login to your ReverbNation account
- If you haven’t already, sync your account with your Myspace account (Go to “My Profile”, and click on “Sync with Myspace” midway down the page)
- Click the “FanReach” tab
- Click on “Create Email”
- Choose the “Fan Recruiter” template
- Customize your email by clicking on the “Edit Message & Subject” button. (Include your Facebook URL, so people know where to look for you.)
- Click on “Send Sample Email” to send yourself a sample, and make sure it looks ok
- If you’re satisfied, click on “Select Recipients”
- Ignore all the filter options. On the right side of the page, you should see a box that says, “You are currently targeting: Myspace Friends (All Myspace contacts)”
- Click on the “Schedule & Send” button
Post a Bulletin Asking Your Myspace Friends to Move to Facebook
Posting a bulletin on Myspace is like tweeting on Twitter, or posting an update on Facebook. All your friends will receive a short post in their bulletin board stream. Bulletins tend to be crowded with cr@p, so don’t bet on many people seeing it. On a positive note, it’s free, quick, easy, and you can do it as many times as you like, depending on how comfortable you are spamming your friends. Here’s how:- Log into your Myspace profile

Post a Status Update Asking Your Myspace Friends to Move to Facebook
Posting a status update is pretty similar to posting a bulletin. Like bulletin posts, your friends are likely flooded with updates all day, but to a greater extent. Give it a whirl, but don’t sweat over it. Here’s how:- Log into your Myspace profile
- At the very top of the page, move your mouse over the phrase “My Stuff” (located next to “Discover”)
- On the far left of the pop-up module, click on the “Update Status” link under “Home”
- Enter a catchy message, something like “Dropping Myspace — Please stay in touch via Facebook”
- Enter your stay-in-touch message, and include a link to your Facebook Page
- Click on “Share”
Blog in Myspace About Moving Friends to Facebook
It doesn’t hurt to cover all bases. Simply post on your Myspace blog about moving to Facebook, and hopefully more of your Myspace friends will follow you there. Here’s how:- Log into your Myspace profile
- At the very top of the page, move your mouse over the phrase “My Stuff” (located next to “Discover”)
- At the far right side of the pop-up module, click on the “Write” link under “Blog”
- Enter a catchy subject line, something like “I don’t like Zuckerberg, but like Myspace less”
- Enter your stay-in-touch message, and include instructions on how to connect with you
- Click on “Post”
Create a Myspace Event to Move More Friends to Facebook
Be like Moses, and lead your people to the promised land. Or rather, create a “Moving” event on your calendar that your friends can see, and hope they make note of it. It’s a bit of an unlikely stretch, but hey, it only takes a second or two to set up. Here’s how:- Log into your Myspace profile
- At the very top of the page, move your mouse over the phrase “My Stuff” (located next to “Discover”)
- In the middle of the pop-up module, click on the “Create Event” link under “Calendar”
- Add a catchy event title like “Dumping Myspace, moving to Facebook”
- Fill out the form. Click on more details to add the “Description” field, and enter your “stay-in-touch” message with Facebook URL.
- Click on “Save”
More Ways to Migrate Your Myspace Friends to Facebook
The above methods are all active ways to solicit your fans and beg them to follow you away from a sinking ship that is Myspace. However, friends may still visit your old profile (which you should NOT delete). There are a few small, additional things you can do…which I don’t necessarily recommend, but I’ll just throw down below as possible ideas for you to play with: For example:- Upload a new profile photo that includes an “I’ve moved to Facebook” message
- Record and upload a short, 5-second song about moving to Facebook (because you have nothing better to do)
- Update your profile and plaster the phrase “Moved to Facebook” everywhere
- Record and upload a short, 5-second video of yourself saying, “I’ve moved to Facebook”
