Band/song/music/film contests are popular PR tools for media sites looking to leverage viral marketing to their advantage. I.e. offer bands prizes, bands bring in fans, fans are eyeballs, eyeballs bring ad dollars, etc, etc. That’s cool, since awards and prizes are nice portfolio building pieces that look good on press kits, and help folks like us get noticed.
