There are hundreds of songwriting and remix competitions taking place accross the US. Here are two of them, with approaching deadlines:

THE "RUNNING 2005" REMIX COMPETITION
Submission Deadline: May 16th, 2005
Task: Take loops provided to you by Rebel Region Productions, and create a remixed version of the track Running, by Bajan Mason.
Grand Prize: Have your remix featured on the upcoming album “Beauty”.

THE USA SONGWRITING COMPETITION
Submission Deadline: May 31, 2005
Task: Write a really good song. There are many categories and genres to compete in.
Grand Prize: $50,000 in cash, merchandise, and more.

Regarding the latter site -- it may be one of the ugliest Web sites I've ever seen...perhaps worse than GarageSpin? :)

By the way, talk about a great business model: Create some kind of "talent search", secure a couple big sponsors to add credibility, and charge thousands of artists with dreams of fame and commerical success an entrance fee. Sigh.

Even better, record everything that occurs, and produce a reality TV series from the footage. Rince, recycle, repeat. What can I say, I'm a dreamer.
