Best Indie Music of 2005

Happy New Year!!Happy New Year, everyone!!

John Sakamoto said it best:  "..trying to force a structure upon an entire year's worth of music is a fool's mission at best, an exercise in self-delusion at worst."  But hey, why not try.  Here are a couple attempts I recently ran across:

The Anti-Hit List's Best of '05.  The Toronto Star's John Sakamoto proposes a list that "...wallows about in the mess."

Best Music in '05.  Thomas Rozwadowski's stab at the best indie music of 2005.

The Best 40 Albums of 2005.  Spin Magazine's take of the best albums in 2005.

Enjoy, welcome to 2006, and may you end up on a Best of 2006 list next year!

UPDATE:  Here's another good one.  The Mix-Tape Project: The Best of 2005 is presented by Adam Lawrence of NadaMucho.

UPDATE 2:  A year has gone by...check out the Best Indie Music of 2006

My only problem with lists like that is that they always remind me that there are about 25 CDs from the last year that I want to get, and then I go broke around the first of the year. I like Spin's list, but I'm a little confused about the inclusion of the NIN album - it's garbage to me. Spin's been on the Trent Reznor bandwagon for a lot of years, I suppose, so why get off now.

Sorry about the quintuple posting. It kept giving me an error message and saying it didn't go through, so I kept trying again. In hindsight, they all went through!!

Mea culpa
