The (White) Rapper Show Finale — Shamrock Wins
So, I passed on watching the Academy Awards on Sunday night, but planted myself down to watch the last episode of Ego Trip‘s The (White) Rapper Show last night. Ah, the degradation of pop culture. Halleluiah, Hollaback.
Caucasian rapper-wannabe Shamrock out-rhymed John Brown, the ghetto revivalist for a $100k grand prize. Ya gotta wonder how much of a chance these guys have of making it as serious rappers…the show was mostly a farce, poking fun at the stereotypical white rap scene. The rappers themselves were mostly incompetent artists, though a few of the cast (including the finalists) were actually legitimate lyricists. (In fact, Dasit, the guy who left first, was one of the best…but refused to compete in the elimination competition because of its absurdity. He sounds just like Eminem.) With American Idol, Rockstar SuperNova, So You Think You Can Dance, and the many other star contest shows, I always wondered why there wasn’t an R&B or rap show of the same vein, especially considering the hugeness of the market. (Maybe P Diddy’s experiment is proof why..?)

We’ll have to wait and see if there’s ever a White Rapper Show Season 2.

Those white rappers are something else! I don’t know how-but I got sucked into the show. But it was one of those things, no one seemed right. Persia was great, I thought, but could never memorize, and I don’t know if she could freestyle. The last two were okay, and better at remembering lyrics, but not necessarily the best at presenting.
