New iPod to Record CD-Quality Audio

iPod Records .WAV AudioI just bought an iPod color two months ago. Bummer — Music Thing pointed out these specifications from Apple’s iPod specs:

* Voice recording settings:
> Low (22.05 KHz, mono)
> High (44.1 KHz, stereo)

Argh! ..At least I held out for a color screen. iLounge notes that the audio is recorded in uncompressed .WAV format, which will make for files that are big, but that could potentially be used on CD.

Hm…will we see GarageBand on iPod, perhaps?

Commenter Suit & Tie Guy notes: “dude. ipods have had 96kHz recording for some time. line level. stereo. through the dock port. However, you need Linux to use it: http://ipodlinux.org.” Very cool stuff, though I wouldn’t trust myself trying to install an entirely different operating system on iPod…
