Is “Rhapsody To Go” The Big Real News?

Will RealNetworks Announce I received another version of the teaser email from RealNetworks CEO, Rob Glazer. This one was directed towards current and past Rhapsody subscribers, and includes a little more info regarding the “announcement”:

I also want to share some exciting news with you. On April 26, we are taking Rhapsody and digital music to the next level.

Subscribers are given the chance to see a free concert:

To celebrate, we’re holding a free concert that evening at 8 p.m. (ET) at the legendary Radio City Music Hall in New York City, featuring multi-platinum artist (and perennial Rhapsody favorite) Good Charlotte. [We] have a very special treat for 500 of our New York area Rhapsody subscribers: tickets to the actual concert at the legendary Radio City Music Hall.

Interesting. I have a hunch Real will unveil a portable version of Rhapsody to compete directly with Napster To Go and other portable music subscription services.

Billboard PostPlay seems to agree that a “Rhapod” is possible. Check here for press release details. Or try here for more RealNetworks juice.

Rhapsody To Go to be released?

There’s some speculation that Real Networks will announce Rhapsody To Go to compete with the Napster To Go digital music subscription service. Something smells like this being too little, too late. Who knows, I guess we’ll find out for sure…
