Cakewalk Sonar, M-Audio, Microsoft, Move To 64 Bit


Sonar 4 Audio Recording SoftwareDigital home recording studio technology improves every year, allowing musicians to create increasingly complex arrangements and recordings easily.

At the recent NAMM Show, Cakewalk announced a 64-bit compatable version of Sonar. Meanwhile, Microsoft is close to having a 64-bit version of Windows, and M-Audio is releasing beta drivers to support 64 bit processing.

It’s no wonder professional recording studios are closing around the country, with the home recording technology now available to the average songwriter or musician.

The headline is a bit misleading. This is not referring to 64 bit audio. Rather, it’s referring to build of the software that takes advantage of the newer 64 bit processors such as Mac G5 (and what ever the PC equivalent is). It just means faster processing power. Audio will still be 24 bits.
